I want to start a team. What do I need to do first and what does it involve?
Aside from the obvious (finding players, buying equipment and uniforms, setting up practices, etc.), there are 4 basic functions that new teams need to perform:
1. Register your team with USSSA.
2. Purchase team insurance.
3. Complete the online roster form, print it, have all players and parents to sign it.
4. Choose which tournaments you wish to participate in and register for them online.
What do I need to do to sanction my team?
Teams need to register with at least one of the sport's sanctioning bodies. The United States Specialty Sports Association (USSSA) is one of those bodies. The cost to register your team online with USSSA is $55 and is valid from August 1 to July 31. By registering with USSSA you become part of a nationwide group of youth softball teams. Your team will be placed on a mailing list for important information, have the ability to purchase team insurance, be able to participate in USSSA tournaments and leagues, receive a rule book as well as other benefits as part of the USSSA program.
Which classification should I sanction my team as ?
Teams should follow the guidelines under the "Points and Classification" tab on the left. Teams that have not participated in USSSA in the past should sanction themselves as closely to the appropriate class as possible. The USSSA State Office will follow teams and reclassify them accordingly.
What is involved with purchasing team insurance?
Every team that participates in even one tournament needs to purchase team insurance. Simply put, none of softball's sanctioning bodies will allow a team to participate that doesn't have team insurance. USSSA’s insurance carrier is K&K. Teams do not have to purchase their insurance through K&K, but it’s an easy and quick process to do through the USSSA website, www.usssa.com. The USSSA policy provides both liability and accident coverage for either a full year, running from January 1 to December 31, or a half-year, at half the cost of full year coverage, running from February 1 to July 31. If your organization or in house program consists of six teams or more you are also eligible for a 25-30% discount on insurance. Just contact the CT State Fastpitch Director if you think your organization is eligible for this discount. In order to purchase team insurance from K&K, teams will need to be registered through USSSA and will need to provide K&K with their sanction number upon application.
Is my team required to have USSSA team insurance?
No, but every team needs insurance. USSSA has great coverage at a great price. But if your team or organization uses another sanctioning body for insurance such as ASA, this is allowed.
How do I enter my roster online?
First you will need to register your team online and the system will walk you through the procedures. Once the roster has been completely entered, you need to print a copy and have the players and parents sign it.
How do I qualify for a World Series?
Teams can qualify for a World Series by meeting BOTH criteria below:
1) Finishing in the top 25% of a USSSA Qualifying Tournament AND
2) Playing in the USSSA State Championship. Teams should participate in the Highest Classification that their team qualified for. For example: a team that finishes in the top 25% of an AAA tournament, should play in a AAA World Series.
What does it mean when I see that my team is "frozen?"
A "Frozen Roster" is the same as a "Qualified Roster". Teams that finish in the top 25% of a qualifying tournament will have their roster "frozen". However, teams will be able to make 3 Roster Additions to their roster after the team is frozen. *Players can only be on 1 Frozen Roster. Players cannot participate on any team below the classification of the oldest team on which they participate on.
How do I register my team for USSSA tournaments?

hosting a tournament, go to www.pausssaeast.com or www.njusssa.com.
What paperwork do I need to bring to a USSSA tournament?
You need to bring your official roster (completely filled out and signed), a copy of your insurance certificate and copies of the players’ birth certificates to be verified, if needed.
Can USSSA registered teams participate in other organizations’ tournaments?
Absolutely. In fact, we encourage teams to play in tournaments run by other organizations. Although we believe USSSA will offer your team the most opportunity overall, we also understand that each weekend is different, and depending on your team's situation another organization might provide you a better solution for that particular weekend. Contrary to what many people might think, the directors of each sanctioning body do get along with one another and help each other in every way they can. For the most part, the various associations work with, not against, each other.
Are the rules of play different in USSSA tournaments?
The rules of Baseball are virtually the same for all sanctioning bodies but some rules in
USSSA do differ from other organizations. For a more detailed view on rules,
